1. How do you say your last name?
When I first met my husband, I asked his friend how to say it, because I didn’t want to say it wrong. It’s actually not that difficult. First SUH and then LAY. Easy enough, right?

2. What kind of equipment do you use?
My camera, lenses, and flash are all Nikon professional level equipment.

3. How many pictures will I get from my session?
Of course, this depends on the event. For pictures of children, a lot depends on the mood of the little ones, but you should end up with anywhere from 50 to 75 printable images. Family sessions usually have more. Sessions for bridals and engagements are similar to sessions with children, 50 to 75, and the ceremony and reception amounts really depend on the length of those events. You should end up with at least 200 printable images from your big day, but you will usually end up with more.

4. What is a “printable” image?
By “printable,” I just mean that the picture is good enough that I would feel comfortable having it on my blog or website or framed in your home for other people to see. Basically, the best of the best from our time together.

5. Why can’t I order prints from you?
Well, technically you can. I’m a busy mom and prefer to just make the disc and send your pictures on their way. However, if you would like to order prints from me, or to make it easy for family members and friends to do so, let me know and I can put your images in an online gallery for 30 days. There is a $15 fee for this service.

6. Does it matter where I print the pictures?
Yes, yes and YES! Costco, Wal-Mart, Snapfish, and other online print companies are great for family snaps, but your professional prints will not look their best unless they are printed at a decent lab. Unfortunately, you do need an account to deal with most labs. I find that Inkley’s does a pretty good job for the price, but I recommend going into the store since their online site is not the best.

7. What should I wear?
My humble opinion on what looks best varies based on the who, where, and when. However, the basic rule is to be colorful. For group shots pick three complimentary colors and have everyone wear those colors without matching. Also, don't wear anything you wouldn't wear in real life, just maybe up a notch and not out of character for you. On top of this remember that I have seen these rules broken, and the pictures still turn out great because people have trusted their instincts. For more specific advice shoot me an email.

8. Do you charge travel fees?
There are no travel fees for any location in the Salt Lake Valley between Provo and Ogden. Email me if your location is outside of these boundaries for a travel quote.

9. When is payment due?
For sessions with families and children, payment is due at the end of our session. For weddings, I require a non-refundable deposit of $200 to hold your date and the balance is due two weeks prior to the wedding date.

10. Will you surprise me with additional fees?
No. Never. All fees are discussed upfront before a session or wedding.

11. How long will our session last?
Most sessions last about an hour.

12. When is the best time of day for our session?
I love to shoot about an hour and a half before the sun goes down. Morning sessions are also sometimes available which can be more helpful for little ones.

13. Do my pictures have to be on your blog and website?
I usually post some of my favorites from our session on my blog as a sneak peek before the entire session is edited. After a session is edited sometimes a photo or two will end up on my website. If you are uncomfortable with any of this than please let me know.

14. Why don’t you offer wedding albums?
Wholesale prices on professional-grade wedding albums are actually quite expensive. Then there is usually some markup to compensate photographers for the time put into designing the album. I try and keep costs to a minimum, so I currently do not offer albums.

15. Where are you located?
I work out of my home, which is in the Holladay area of Salt Lake City, Utah.

16. How long does it take to get my pictures?
Family, children, engagements, and bridals usually take about 2 weeks. Weddings take about 4 weeks. During the busy season (May through September) it can take a bit longer. If you have concerns about the turnaround, let me know and I will try my best to accommodate you.

17.You didn’t answer my question. How come?
It must mean that no one else has ever thought of it? Aren’t you clever?! Email me through my contact page with your clever question, and I will be happy to answer it.
